Western visitors meet residents of a dalit village

Visit India and see how VST-sponsored projects are changing people’s lives

Whether you are a long-time supporter who wants to see how your contributions make real changes on the ground or are interested in exploring Indian village life, VST can offer you an insight into its work and the people it works with.

Staying in simple accommodation at our partner Arogya Agam and eating home-cooked local food, you will have the chance to see so much more than a regular tourist. You can get involved in our various projects according to your interest and preference – for example, you might accompany staff on village visits, meet women benefiting from loans and income-generating activities, engage with women and Dalit activists or see how Arogya Agam assists children affected by HIV. And for those who enjoy hill-walking there is the opportunity to visit tribal communities in forest areas. Your trip can also take in a visit to Vasandham’s environmental centre in the Varasanadu hills. Visits to local sights of interest, such as temples, markets and festivals, can also be arranged.

You will need to arrange your travel to India and your wider travel plans within India. Arogya Agam will pick you up from Madurai rail station or airport. At the end of your visit to Arogya Agam you can be taken to your next destination: either back to the airport or on to nearby tourist sites. We can also arrange organised tours with local travel agents, or advise on independent travel.

The climate in south India suits travel at all times of the year. It is generally warm, dry and sunny: a little cooler in December and January, hotter in April and May, and wetter in October and November.
