Securing the rights and entitlements of the most marginalised communities

Village Service Trust is a volunteer-run UK charity that has been working for more than 40 years to support the most marginalised people in rural south India in their pursuit of lives free from poverty, violence and discrimination.

We are, at heart, an organisation of people in the UK who have forged a special connection with partner organisations in one small corner of India – Theni District in Tamil Nadu.

Women's Self-Help Groups

Much of what we do is based on women’s self-help groups. These groups can:

  • Give women a voice in public and at home

  • Reduce domestic violence

  • Increase incomes

  • Free women from indebtedness

  • Keep girls in school

  • Help women get elected

These groups don’t start by themselves.

Someone has to take the initiative.

That’s us, our partners, and your support.
